I'm so grateful to have you here. I'm going to lead in with this Take what's next to you, leave the rest, because some of you this is the first episode you're like this is a lot, don't take it then. Don't take what doesn't stick to you, take what's next to you, leave the rest.

Speaker 1:

My friends, this week we're talking about letting go of the past. Letting go of the past so good, it's exciting. I think it's something that it can be really a strong hold on us and we won't even realize it. This was the case for me letting go of the past and recognizing how much of my past can just really hang on to me. What's funny is I feel like I go through seasons where I really do a good job of recognizing all the ways that I'm being held back by my past, or recognizing all the ways that I'm looking in the past and I clean it all up. And I clear it all up and I'm good, I'm in the present moment, I'm feeling good, I'm in the present moment, and then maybe I make a failure or two right, or I have a mistake. That happens, or something goes wrong, or not, according to the way that I think it's going to go, because, y'all, life is life and life be life.

Speaker 1:

And sometimes, and then all of a sudden, I start, my brain starts collecting evidence that things are going well, or that things aren't going the way I thought they were going to go, or that maybe I need to be more careful. Right, because the brain is always trying to protect us, and so I too. They have to notice. Oh, I'm allowing these thoughts that are based on past mistakes keep me from showing up the way I want to. Right now, my brain, trying to protect me from looking stupid again, from making that same mistake, is saying hey, you know, this mistake happened the last time you did this. So, to be honest, it really has given me an opportunity to rethink some of the ways that I'm showing up and some of the ways that I'm doing things. So that's what I want the past to be for you, right, a way for a tool for you to see okay, maybe I did this way this time. How do I want to do it next time? Not as a, not as like a jail sentence. Essentially, right, a mental jail sentence.

Speaker 1:

Okay, so we're talking about letting go of the past. My friends, one of the first things that made me go when I was thinking about this podcast episode and why it can be so difficult for us to either forgive the past or let go of the past. However you want to look at it, I think that the two go hand in hand. To let it go Is to forgive it. To forgive it is to let it go. I think those two things go hand in hand. And so the brain says I can't, because the past trackers know the truth. I was thinking about why are the reasons that my clients or whatever that I work with they're just human beings on the planet have a hard time letting go of the past? Right, they might think the past trackers. You may not say that in your brain, but that's how you bring categorisms the past trackers know the truth, right? My mom knows that I was once upon a time horrible to my teachers and had bad grades. My dad knows that I dropped out of school. My sister knows that I never completed college, right, these might be the examples that you're carrying around. And so when you then go to build a business and you're going to start giving financial advice, or you're going to start styling people or you just whatever the business is that you're going to start, maybe you want to be a content creator, your family's like. You're going to stick to something. Oh, you are. Remember that one time, right. So your brain's, like the past trackers, know, they know, they don't know it's not even worth it. They're gonna keep bringing this stuff up. They're gonna keep putting it in my face. It's not even worth it. I, I can't. I can't take action on my goal because the past trackers Will remind me of my past. Now this is the real thing, my friends, and this can happen. A mission in the last podcast episode. This can actually actually happen mentally, where you're just in their voice, creating things based on the things may be growing up For me.

Speaker 1:

I was called a busybody all the time. You're such a busy about you're all over the place, and so, as an adult, what that turned into is me thinking that I was really disorganized and unable to quote, be the business type because my Family called me a busy body. I was too disorganized, based on what they had told me, to be someone that could run a profitable business in order. In my opinion, and when I'm working with, we're building a profitable business. You're an organized woman and Because of my past, because of the way that my parents, you eat things everywhere You're such a busy body. You're all over the place, right.

Speaker 1:

I internalize that and, as an adult, said well, I'm a busy body, I can't. I'm all over the place. In order to have a business where I'm attracting Millions of dollars every year and I'm the head of it, I have to be organized and I just I can't do that, right. And so when I noticed that, that was an opportunity for me to say, oh, I've been carrying around this thought from the past, I've been carrying around this thing from years ago that it makes sense that my brain picked up on it. So money told me I was all over the place.

Speaker 1:

Our brains are storytellers, right? So what was the story that I then started telling myself, based on the information my family told me? Because I'm all over the place, I cannot be an organized person who could run a business that could make millions, right, it could not be an organized business owner. What are the stories that you're telling yourself? Based on the past, based on the things that your family has told you and I'm not here to say that your family is bad around. We're not here to ostracize family or ostracize the people that love us. They're coming from a loving place, even if what they're saying doesn't feel loving, I have to tell me clients all the time that it's coming from a loving place, even if the way it sounds isn't loving. Now we do have those family members that maybe it isn't coming from a loving place, but it is still an opportunity for us to look at that thought that we've downloaded from them and decide, redecide. Do I want to keep thinking this thought, does this thought serve me anymore?

Speaker 1:

For me, an answer was no. I Can be a multi-passionate ADHD, anxiety, having busy body and still run a business that serves hundreds of women. That reality is possible for me. I had to decide that it is possible for me to. Who Can't be quite scattered. It bothers my husband. We are very opposite in this way and I'm actually so grateful for it because we I teach him how to loosen up, he teaches me how to get more organized. We are a beautiful balance. But I had to believe that it was possible that, even though I've been told he's in, hmm, can I be myself and still be successful? That's the question I think a lot of people are, are not answering or don't feel like they can't answer. Can I be myself and still be successful? Because most of us feel like it's no, I Can't be my full self and be still be successful, right? So let me form into these boxes where I've seen other people be successful, even though it's not a great fit for me, right?

Speaker 1:

This is how our past starts to sabotage us without us knowing. Somebody told us we were good at something. We did it. We were good at it. We've been doing it for a while and even though we're good at it, it's not what makes us our heart sing. It's not what makes us come alive, and we're starting to notice that. But because nobody's affirmed this other thing that we'd love to do, that maybe you haven't even told anybody about, so they can't affirm it. But because I don't have any confirmation in this area, I don't, I don't want to take action in it.

Speaker 1:

I have confirmation in this other area from my past, from the people in my past, right? So check in, check in. Are the things that I downloaded in my childhood, are the thoughts that were given to me by people who care about me very much? Are they still serving me, right? Are they still serving me?

Speaker 1:

Here's the second reason why you might have a hard time letting go of or forgiving the past. I'm only what I used to be. This is a thought that is logical, because the brain is collecting information as it goes. So if the brain has collected information from birth, as early as you can remember, to right now, again, our brains are storytellers. What is the story you've been telling about yourself, right, based on all that information that you have? Are you telling the story of your failures? I'm only these failures, so I could never be any better.

Speaker 1:

Look at all these times that I failed. What is the story you're telling yourself? Or have you been telling yourself I failed and I got up, I failed and I got up, I failed and I got up. And even in that, I think sometimes we beat ourselves up. Well, look at all the times you fail and you got back up. Why is it going to be different this time? Because I decided it's going to be different, right? This is where we change the trajectory. This is where we don't let our past dictate our future anymore. The brain says it's always been that way, so you're going to allow it to always be that way in the future. It's up to you. Your life is a result of your beliefs, and if you spend more time looking at your past failures and then create a story around it. This is now. I believe that I'm just going to keep failing, because look at all the failures I have in my past. That's one storyline, right, and your brain will follow it Versus. I see these failures. What have I learned from each of them? How proud am I that I am still showing up and trying, now, again?

Speaker 1:

I always like to remind you the definition of insanity is doing the same thing again and again, expecting a different result. I'm not telling you to keep doing the same thing again and again, saying I believe I'm going to sign clients, I'm going to keep posting in this way at this time. No, if it's. There's a difference between consistency, right, and insanity. Consistency is showing up consistently, right. You might be doing the same thing, posting a real every single day.

Speaker 1:

Is what you've decided to do? To use these hashtags? Let's say you've been doing that for a month, right? If you have seen no change. No, nothing, right? Nobody is commenting, nobody's sharing it. That is an opportunity to look at. Do I need to change my hashtags? Maybe it's the time of day? What are the thoughts? What are?

Speaker 1:

I've been thinking about my business in general. Maybe it's my energy, maybe this whole time, even though I've been posting every day, I've been thinking nobody's ever going to buy for me. Why would I buy for me? Not trusting yourself? Right? It's an opportunity to look at it. You don't keep them doing it. That's what I would say is insanity. You're like I've been posting every single day for six months and I ask you what you've been doing. If you've been tracking it like nothing, okay, well then, something needs to change. Right, but that's different than I. I'm going to look at all my failures. I'm going to look at all the things that have quote gone wrong and I'm going to note the things that have quote gone wrong and what is within my capacity. What can I change next time? Is it the way that I market? Is it my energy? Is it, like I said, your hashtags? Is it the way that I'm filming it? Maybe I get better lighting? That is a very simple but dramatic change, my friends.

Speaker 1:

The difference between standing in front of your window and filming versus standing in the middle of your house where you're not getting any direct sunlight that is the difference between somebody's video that looks more professional and one that doesn't, and therefore somebody's probably going to invest in the one that feels more professional, but that also can differ on your energy, right? If the person that's standing by their window doesn't believe that they can sell anything and is beating themselves up because they're just thinking about all their failures while they're going live on Instagram, they're probably not going to sell anything, versus the person that is standing in the middle of their house, maybe in an apartment that they're not proud of right now, but they are know that they're getting out of, so they're going to sell this, whatever they're selling, with passion, and they know they're going to get out, that person is going to sell, right, and so this is the work that we do. It's making sure. This is what we talk about when I say in alignment. Are the thoughts you're thinking, creating feelings you want to feel? Are the feelings you're feeling promoting action you want to take? Are the actions you're taking creating the results that you want to get? But let's zoom out.

Speaker 1:

Is your past keeping you from showing up in the first place? Is your past telling you stories that I can't do it because I did it once and it didn't work? My mom says I'm not good at that. My dad will think I'm crazy. My sister will that. One girl, my coworker. Who is it? Who is it that you're afraid of disappointing, right, and I want you to check in and see why.

Speaker 1:

There is likely something in your past, even if that past was 30 minutes ago, that they have said that is the creative, this feeling just get curious, right? Am I willing to be misunderstood? Is it okay if they don't get it? Am I willing to write a new story? Maybe I used to be messy and now I'm an organizational coach because I got it together and I learned how to organize, but the people in my life that love me so much haven't seen that. Am I willing to have my own back in that and say, actually, yeah, I know that I used to be really messy, but that's actually a part of my story, and now I really love going to people's homes and organizing it for them and charging for it and making money off of it, and I'm my own business owner. Check in Is your past keeping you from showing up? And if it is, that's okay.

Speaker 1:

Be mindful, aware, without judgment, of those thoughts, of those stories that you're telling from your past that are keeping you stuck. As always, my friends, take what sticks to you, leave the rest. I hope this serves you. Go out, take action. Go and write down, maybe, some of those stories from your past. Go and write down some of those things that are in your body, that you're but what if this? But what if that? But what if this? Write all those things down. Are you willing to have your own back? What if it works out? What if they love it? What if you could change hearts? And are you willing to show up, even if your mom still doesn't get it, even if your sister still doesn't get it? Are you willing to believe that your people will find you? Check in. All right, my friends again, take what sticks to you, leave the rest. I'll see you next week.
