Speaker 1:

I'll teach you how to create what I like to call a life of thrive, with ease and authenticity. It's time to play with what's possible. Are you ready? Let's go? Hello, hello, hello, my friends, and welcome back to another episode of Believe Like a Boss. I am your host, life Coach Nandu Kamil, and I'm so grateful to have you all here for another episode.

Speaker 1:

Happy Labor Day. Whether you're working or you're not, most people, I think, are somewhere in the middle. Maybe you have a full-time job that's giving you today up and you're also working on your side hustle or building your business. I feel like that's what's happening for a majority of people, and hopefully you're also getting some rest today too, taking some time to just take in the work that you've done, how far you've come, take some inventory and really celebrate that. I hope that you work that somewhere into your day, whether you're working or not. I'm sending you lots of love. Happy Labor Day, my friends.

Speaker 1:

On the theme of Labor Day, I wanted to talk I think this is gonna be brief, but we'll see I wanted to talk about labor. I wanted to talk about our thoughts about work. I think that it's funny when people say there's this I'm paraphrasing but there's this thing going around where it's like oh, is this your dream job? No, honey, I don't dream of labor, right, that sort of. I guess it's a quote that's floating around on TikTok and Instagram and people will do the ad lib for it. But, to be honest, there was a time that I did dream of labor and I think that I still do. Right, when you were thinking about our dreams and our goals being an author, being a writer, being a blogger, being an influencer. They are dreams, and in order to create these dreams, it will take labor, it will take work, it will take effort, and I think that what the women that I work with, what I'm looking for, is this beautiful quote, balance of both, and when I say balance, I don't think about an even scale, I just think about alignment. For me, balance is synonymous with alignment, and alignment looks different to different people. For some people, it is aligned to work out for three hours a week. For some people, it's aligned to work out for 10 hours a week. For some people, it's aligned to work out for an hour and a half throughout their entire week. Right, and that's true to them. That's what their balance is, and when we're working towards that balance, that looks different to different people. And so what I wanna talk about today is labor and our thoughts about labor. More so, specifically your thoughts about labor, because your thoughts about work, about labor, about your dreams, are influencing the way that you are showing up. So I just wanna take a beat to unpack that.

Speaker 1:

That is the first question what are your thoughts about work and the work that you're doing? So if you're working full time and that is your goal and you would like to climb within that ladder I won't even say corporate ladder within your company's ladder you would like to climb, what are your thoughts about that? It's going to be hard. I've been here for five years and they haven't given me a raise. I would love to climb the corporate ladder, but they're making it really difficult. I don't wanna climb the ladder. I actually want to work fully for myself, and every day that I walk into this building and I'm not working for myself, I'm angry. I want you to check in on where you are right now when it comes to any or all of the work that you're doing.

Speaker 1:

So again, that's, if you're working full time, maybe you're doing a little bit of both. What are your thoughts about that? Like I just laughed off with, are you begrudgingly walking into your full time job, hating on that one because it's not your quote dream job of speaking on stages or having a podcast or starting your own? I have a client right now. She wants to open her own aerial yoga studio. And when you think about your work both of them what are your thoughts? Do you just have all these wonderful, fabulous thoughts about I'm going to open up this beautiful aerial yoga studio and it's going to be amazing and it's going to be so easy and so fun, and I hate this full time work that I'm doing right now? And that is not the case for this client. She actually enjoys the work that she's doing full time, while she's working towards this other dream. But this is about you.

Speaker 1:

What are your thoughts about the work that you're doing the full time, the part time, the budding work, the work at home? What are your thoughts about the work you're doing in the world. Here's again where I'm going to give you a clue to how your thoughts are. It's how you feel how are your feeling is a cue to what your thoughts are about the work. So when you're going into your full time job, if you're feeling cranky, that is going to cue you to what your thoughts are about that work, whereas if you're going into your part time work and you're thinking some other thing or feeling some other way, that's going to cue you to something else. Maybe you're in the middle, maybe you're just cranky overall, you're just upset because you're not doing what you ultimately want to be doing at all. This is why I want you to check in what are your thoughts about your work? What are your thoughts about your work? What are the flavors of those thoughts? Ie, what is the energy of those thoughts? And is the energy you're showing up in? Are the thoughts that you're thinking in alignment with your best self? That's the question I want you to check in and be so honest with yourself when you're answering that question.

Speaker 1:

It is okay if you notice right now that how you've been feeling is not in alignment with your best self. The brain, always trying to protect us, might tell us something like I can't feel good while I'm at this job. If I feel good while I'm at this job, then when I be telling the universe that I want this job right that's, our brain will be very sneaky, like that. I can't be happy until I'm working this other thing that I want to be doing. I can't be happy until I have a person. Because if I'm happy with these circumstances that are not ideal for me, that are not in alignment with my dreams, then I must be telling the universe that this is what I want, and then I'm gonna be stuck here. So I need to be angry. I need to show myself and others that this is not what I want, so that change can occur On some level that makes some sense to us. Hence why we walk around feeling grumpy. But if I told you and I have told you, but not all of us believe it even I will fall into this trap of thinking that I need to be cranky and angry.

Speaker 1:

But when I step into joy, despite my circumstances telling me otherwise, maybe I'm not at the dream job, maybe I don't make the money I want to make yet, maybe I haven't met my other half of my power couple that's gonna help us get to the next level, because I'm helping them with their dreams and they're helping me with mine To ask us to be joyous before them. Because let's ask this question how do you think you're gonna feel when you get the person? When you're working full time for yourself, when you're taking vacations to Bali with ease, how will you feel in that place? Often, our answer is aligned, happy, expansive, relaxed. And when I ask you to feel that way ahead of time, the brain short circuits and says why I have no reason to feel that way. The reason as to why is because the only reason we want anything is because of how we believe we will feel in the having of it. The only reason you want that raise is because you think you're gonna feel richer and that will therefore make you feel more abundant. If you feel more abundant, then you can go to Bali, but you can't feel abundant until you have that money in your bank accounts.

Speaker 1:

As the brain and what I'm arguing for is to hey check in, see how you truly feel about your work Is this the way you want to feel? If it's not, how do you want to feel instead? And then our job from there is to step into that energy on purpose, to, even though we're at a job we don't necessarily want to work for the long term, to show up as if it is that job we want to work for the long term. Here's why, again, because the only reason we want to anything is because of how we will feel in the having of it. So A you just get to feel good. You just get to feel good, but that is up to you. Stop waiting on other people to make you feel good. Stop waiting on other circumstances to make you feel good. Stop waiting on a dollar amount in your bank account to make you feel good. You get to choose to feel good ahead of time, on purpose. You get to. It's a choice and I will not say that it is always an easy choice.

Speaker 1:

When you're going to a job that you do not love, when you're being spoken to in a way that you don't appreciate, when you're spending your time in a way that your brain says is not the most aligned for you, it is difficult to override that and just decide I'm gonna show up with joy today. I'm gonna show up with love today. I'm gonna get dressed up for this job that I don't actually really like, because one day, when I do have a job I really like, I imagine that I'm getting dressed up for it. So I'm gonna start doing that now. Right, this is where we start to actually kind of hack our brain, where we start to show our brain no, I don't need to be at this place to be happy. Happiness is available to me now. And here's where the hack comes in.

Speaker 1:

When you start showing up in alignment with your best self, when you start showing up, taking initiative, being proactive, getting dressed up, dressing for the job that you want not the job that you have speaking as if you already have it, your energy shifts, which your brain focuses on, shifts when you're thinking I got this. Of course, women love to work with me before anybody is signed up for you. Signed up with you. Your energy reflects that. The way you show up online reflects that. The content that you write reflects that, versus the person that's begrudgingly going to work, then coming home to work on their business and I don't wanna work this job.

Speaker 1:

When you're typing on your computer because you're trying to get to the next level and you're trying to write this beautiful thing for your audience and tell them how you can believe in yourself and things are great, but if you are authentically not showing up in that energy, that's what people pick up on, that's what you're putting out, that's why you think that you're stuck, when in reality, it's just the choice of thoughts and the energy that is quote keeping you stuck. It is not anybody else, it's not the circumstances, it is your thoughts about the circumstance. It is you saying I'm stuck, I'm stuck, I'm never gonna leave. Are things ever gonna change? That is creating the same results that you keep getting that you don't want. And so then it makes sense that you're frustrated. It makes sense that you're feeling stuck, it makes sense that you're feeling grumpy.

Speaker 1:

But what I wanna invite you to do today is to, if you have not been thinking about yourself and your life and the work that you're doing in high regard, check in, check in. What would it take? Or what would you be thinking? Rather, not what would it take, but what would you be thinking? At that level, where you have what you want, where you're putting out work into the world that you think is valuable, where you feel connected to what you're doing, what are you thinking? Then you might be thinking I love what I'm doing, I love that, I'm connected to my work, right. So think those thoughts on purpose ahead of time. And this is where, when I'm working with clients, where we might work on getting a different job before we work on leaving the job, it might be that it is more important for you to put yourself in an environment where you can believe these things, where I get paid for work that I love to do. If that is not true in your environment and it's too hard to think those thoughts on purpose when your environment is telling you something else, it might be time to look for another job, to look for a new opportunity, and don't let your brain tell you that means I'm gonna be stuck worrying for other people forever. If that's not what you want, then you get to create the reality that you want. In the meantime, it might be helpful to put yourself in an environment where you do see actively, where your work is appreciated, where you're being celebrated.

Speaker 1:

Check in what are your thoughts about the work that you're doing in the world, all of the work that you're doing in the world, the work in your relationships, the work in your career, the work in your family, the work to upgrade your home and your environment. What are your thoughts about the work that you're doing in the world? And if all that was too much, you're like, oh my gosh, I'm doing so much work in the world. Just start with career. Just start with the work that you're doing in exchange for money. What are your thoughts about that? Do you like the way you're thinking about that?

Speaker 1:

Again, the way we check is do you like the way you feel about your work? Do you like? How do you think and feel when you're getting up to go to work, when you're getting ready to start your day? What are those emotions? Are you excited to start your day? Do you feel engaged? Are you leaning in? You're like I'm gonna start this and I'm gonna do that, I'm gonna do this today and it's gonna be so exciting. Or do you feel this resistant energy? You feel repellent energy. You don't want to. You have to force yourself to do it. You hate going in. It's causing anxiety. It's causing frustration.

Speaker 1:

Check in Is it your thoughts about the situation? It's always our thoughts, right, but sometimes it's just our thoughts. Sometimes there's nothing going wrong at work, it's just our thoughts about our work. Nobody's treating us bad at work. We're getting paid well, we have benefits and all this stuff. It's just our thoughts that I shouldn't be here, I should be somewhere else. That's causing the disdain in our body. Is that it for you?

Speaker 1:

Check in? Is it that you're just beating yourself up because you're not your own boss yet that is causing the disdain in your body? Or is it that when you're going to work, the people that you work around are not kind and they gossip and you don't feel like you're paid well for what you do and you don't feel like you're working on collaborative teams? Is that what's coming up for you? Because again, then we get to look at is it that you want to speak up in the workplace and exercise your not exercise your rights, but exercise your voice? Check in. Is it that you need to speak up and say, hey, this isn't working for me. Is it that you need to speak up and ask for a raise? Is it that you need to leave? Is it that it's time to go to a new place where you're respected and celebrated and then check in? I've worked with clients that actually don't believe that that possibility is available to them. They don't believe that they could go to a workplace and be respected and seen and heard and value.

Speaker 1:

Check in what are your thoughts about work? Your thoughts about work are influencing how you feel. How you feel is influencing the action you're taking, and the action you're taking is influencing the results you're getting. So if you're not getting the results that you want, I want you to come all the way back up. How am I feeling and how am I thinking, because that is influencing the action you're taking. Check in, with so much love. What are your thoughts about work? Do you like the thoughts that you're thinking? Do you like the action that you're taking? And if not, remember that you are in charge of your thoughts. Even though Felicia talked to you sideways and you feel entitled to be angry about that, it is ultimately your thoughts about Felicia that are influencing the way you feel.

Speaker 1:

If you think the thought Felicia is always picking on me I hate it here she's so mean to me You're going to feel some type of way versus. Hmm, I wonder if she's in pain, what might be causing her to speak to me that way? Right, you're getting curious about it. I love the word curiosity. Check in. Give yourself your power. Back, my friend. You're in charge of your mind. You are in charge of your feelings. Feel all of your feelings. No feelings are wrong, they're just guides. They're just guides to what we're thinking, and this is an opportunity for you to check in and make sure the thoughts that you're thinking and the action that you're taking is in alignment with what you see as your most successful self. If it's not, what is one new thought that you can think that is in alignment with your best self? It could be something as simple as I love how I show up, I am proactive, I'm proud of me, right, and then make sure that the action you're taking is in alignment with those thoughts. Otherwise, your brain's going to be like what why am I thinking this thought? That's where that resistance comes from. Why are we thinking this thought if you're not taking the action behind it?

Speaker 1:

If you're ready to feel good about work, if you're ready to feel more empowered in what you're doing, I want you to visualize that. What does that mean to you? It means you're excited about the work that you're doing. Okay, what work gets you excited? Does it mean that you're surrounded by great teammates? Does it mean that you make a great paycheck? What do all of those things actually mean to you and then take some time to visualize it, get clear on what that means to you and then go to the version of you that already has it. What are they thinking from that place? This is, then, your job to think those thoughts on purpose right now.

Speaker 1:

You absolutely got this, my friend. Even if you're in a position that you don't necessarily want to be in for the long term, keep affirming that you're going exactly where you want to go, that you're getting exactly what you want in work and value and friendships and relationships. But specifically, we're talking about work today. So affirm I get to have what I want in work and get clear on what it is that you want in work. You got this, my friends. Happy Labor Day.
